Aviagen SweChick recently made an extension to its parent stock hatchery building in Åstorp, providing space for new setter rooms, a transfer room, new hatcher rooms, a large area for chick handling and a technical room. The extension was designed with a lot of attention to maintaining an optimal logistical and biosecure flow. The new building has been equipped with Petersime single-stage incubators, which were successfully commissioned last year. The first phase of the capacity extension project has increased the setting capacity with about 5 million eggs per year.
Project info
The project includes Petersime BioStreamer™ 8S and 4S setters with OvoScan™ sensors and BioStreamer™ 4H hatchers. Aviagen SweChick also invested in Petersime’s Eagle Eye™ software package to monitor and control the hatchery from the Eagle Eye™ command centre.
In the coming weeks, Petersime will also install a BioStreamer™ Re-Store in the parent stock hatchery. This type of hatchery often experiences a reduced hatchability due to long egg storage times. The Re-Store is the solution, since its technology improves the hatchability of stored eggs, especially for long-stored eggs.
“The choice for Petersime BioStreamer™ incubators with OvoScan™ technology was quickly made, because it meets our needs for better hatchability and chick performance. In addition, we are very happy with the support Petersime offers us. We have seen our average hatchability increase over the years and trust to continue that trend with this new investment,” says Ulf Nilsson, Production Manager at Aviagen SweChick.
